Reader License Agreement
Last updated: September 2, 2026
This agreement sets out what you may and may not do with the chapters, lore, maps, images and files you unlock on MakaronHub. It applies to you as a reader. What authors pay us, and how, is a separate matter covered by section 2 of the Terms of Service, which this page does not repeat.
You accept this agreement by opening or reading member-only content on MakaronHub. It forms part of our Terms of Service. Where the two say different things about the same point, the Terms govern. What we collect while you read, and for how long we keep it, is described in the Privacy Policy.
1. Who Grants This License
The work you read belongs to the author who wrote it, not to MakaronHub. We host it and deliver it to entitled readers on that author's behalf, exactly as described in section 1 of the Terms. The license below is granted to you by the author, through us; we administer it and we enforce it on the platform.
2. What You Get
A personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable and revocable license to read and view the material your membership entitles you to, for your own private enjoyment. That covers chapters and their previews, lore and wiki entries, world maps, artwork, and any files attached to a lore entry.
3. What You Do Not Get
Nothing here transfers ownership or copyright, and nothing here is a sale of a copy. You are not buying a file, and you are not buying permanent access. What you are paying for is a membership with the author on Patreon; access on MakaronHub follows from that membership and is measured by it.
4. How Long It Lasts
For as long as your Patreon membership with that author is active at the tier the material requires. The license over a given piece of content ends, and your access ends with it, when any of the following happens:
- your membership lapses, is cancelled, or moves to a tier that does not include it;
- the author archives, unpublishes, or deletes it, or pauses or closes their account;
- your MakaronHub account is banned under section 4 of the Terms;
- MakaronHub is discontinued, as anticipated by section 10 of the Terms.
None of those are things we can promise will not happen, which is what section 11 below is about.
5. What You May Do
- Read on your own devices and stay signed in on more than one of them — up to three in any 24 hours. That limit is there to stop one account being shared, and a slot frees itself 24 hours after a device was last used; the reader tells you when if you reach it.
- Select, copy and look up text for your own reading — a dictionary pop-up, translating a sentence you did not follow, or checking a name. Text selection is deliberately left enabled on this platform so that ordinary reading is not made awkward.
- Quote a short passage — in a comment here, in a review, or in a discussion elsewhere — with the author and the series named. Short means a line or two to make a point, not a scene, a chapter, or a running series of excerpts that together reproduce the work.
- Save a file that is offered to you as a download, such as an attachment on a lore entry, and keep it for your own reference. Everything in section 6 still applies to that file.
- Use assistive technology, including screen readers and text-to-speech, for your own reading.
6. What You May Not Do
These restrictions are the reader conduct rules in section 4 of the Terms, set out in full. You may not:
- share your account, your session, or your sign-in with anyone else, or let another person read member-only content through your account;
- republish, post, upload, mirror, or otherwise distribute the content anywhere outside MakaronHub, in whole or in part — including as a translation, a retelling, an audio reading, or a reformatted version;
- scrape, bulk-download, or automate the collection of content, or use tools that read chapters faster or more broadly than a person reading them would;
- remove, alter, obscure, or attempt to defeat the identifiers described in section 7, or strip them from a copy before passing it on;
- use the content to train, fine-tune, evaluate, or build a dataset for a machine learning or generative system;
- sell, rent, or place the content behind a paywall, membership, or advertising of your own;
- work around tier gates, spoiler gates, publication dates, or any other access check, or help someone else do so.
7. Watermarking of Your Copy
Member-only chapters are generated for your account at the moment you open them, and may carry invisible identifiers unique to you. Whether a given series does is its author's setting, and you are not told which — so treat any chapter you open as though it does. This is described from the data-protection side in section 3 of the Privacy Policy.
We want to be exact about what this is and is not. It does not prevent copying, and it is not intended to. The text you read is ordinary readable text and stays selectable and copyable on purpose. What the identifiers do is let an author trace a leaked copy back to the account it came from, after the fact. As section 11 of the Terms says, we do not treat any such identification as conclusive on its own — where our tooling points at an account, we assess it before acting.
8. Payment and Refunds
MakaronHub never charges readers for anything. Your payment goes to the author through Patreon, and cancellations, refunds and chargebacks are between you, that author, and Patreon — see section 8 of the Terms. Losing access because a membership ended is not something we can refund, because we did not take the payment.
9. If This License Is Broken
If you break section 6, we may end your access to member-only content and, in the cases named in section 4 of the Terms, permanently ban your MakaronHub account. That process, including how to contest a ban you believe is wrong, is set out there rather than repeated here.
A ban we issue applies to MakaronHub only. It does not cancel your Patreon membership or ask Patreon to do anything; that relationship is between you and the author. An author may separately decide to act on their own Patreon campaign, which is their decision and not one we are party to.
Ending this license does not affect the author's underlying copyright, or any remedy they have under it outside this platform.
10. Comments and Reports You Submit
You keep ownership of the comments, typo reports, suggestions and bug reports you write here. By submitting them you grant MakaronHub and the relevant author a non-exclusive license to display, store and act on them on the platform, in connection with the series they were posted to. Do not submit anything you do not have the right to submit, and note that pasting chapter text into a comment is subject to the quoting limit in section 5.
Comment sections are moderated, and that is separate from this license. The author of a series can remove a comment under their own work and can stop your account posting comments there for a period; MakaronHub moderators can do the same across the platform. Whoever acts must give a reason and you are sent it. None of it touches your reading access — the license granted here is unaffected, and every chapter you can already open stays open. Only a suspension under section 4 of the Terms ends this license, as section 9 above describes.
11. Availability of Content
Authors edit, reschedule, archive and delete their own work, and we do not guarantee that any chapter stays available or unchanged — see sections 10 and 11 of the Terms. Because this license gives you no right to keep a copy, please treat availability as something that can change.
12. Changes to This Agreement
We may update this agreement. The date at the top is the last time its text actually changed, and your continued use of member-only content after a change indicates acceptance of it.
13. Relationship to the Terms of Service
This agreement is part of the Terms of Service and is named in the entire-agreement clause in section 15 of those Terms. If anything here conflicts with the Terms, the Terms govern. The Terms also carry the disclaimers of warranty, the limitation of liability, and the dispute process that apply to everything on this platform, including this license.
