Terms of Service
Last updated: September 5, 2026
Welcome to MakaronHub! By accessing or using our website and platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of the terms, then you do not have permission to access the service.
1. Content Ownership & License
All content published on this website by authors (including text, chapters, lore, characters, and graphics) remains the exclusive intellectual property of their respective authors.
MakaronHub does not claim ownership over any user-submitted content. The platform solely provides a technical infrastructure and hosting service for authors to deliver their content to their Patreon supporters. By uploading content, authors grant MakaronHub a non-exclusive license to display and distribute that content to authorized readers on the platform.
MakaronHub staff can open any series. Administrators and moderators reach an author's chapters, lore and wiki without holding a membership of that author's Patreon. This is deliberate, and it is limited to what running the platform requires: reviewing content against these Terms, acting on a takedown request under section 3, investigating a reported leak or an abuse report, and answering a support request about a page nobody else can reach. It is not a licence to use, republish or redistribute the work — the paragraphs above govern, and staff are bound by them like anyone else. A staff member opening a chapter leaves the same access record that every other chapter view leaves.
1b. Content Standards
These apply to everything an author uploads — chapters, lore entries, covers, maps and attachments — and to everything a reader writes: comments, suggestions on the public suggestion board, typo reports and bug reports.
- No sexually explicit content. Sex can be part of a story; pornographic writing or imagery is not something to publish here. MakaronHub has no age verification and does not pretend to: rather than host explicit work behind a check we cannot perform, we do not host it.
- Nothing that sexualises a minor, in any form. This covers written text as much as images, and it applies to fictional characters written or drawn as children. There is no artistic exception and no tag that makes it acceptable. Such material is removed, the account is terminated without warning, and it is reported where the law requires it.
- Nothing unlawful, and nothing aimed at a person. That means content that is illegal where we or our providers operate, content inciting violence against a person or a group, sustained harassment of an identifiable individual, and material uploaded to impersonate someone.
- No work that is not yours to publish. Section 3 is what happens once somebody tells us otherwise; this is the rule it enforces.
Nobody reviews work before it is published. There is no approval queue and no one reads every chapter, so these standards are applied when something is reported or noticed rather than at upload. Depending on what it is, the material is removed, the series is taken down, or the account is suspended.
An author is responsible for everything published under their account, including work uploaded by anyone they have given access to and anything brought across from Patreon by a sync. That a chapter came from elsewhere does not move the responsibility for it.
2. Billing and Subscription Terms (For Authors)
This section is suspended while MakaronHub is in closed beta.
No author is charged anything at present: no subscription is created, no payment method is requested, no invoice is raised, and none of the restrictions described below can be applied to an account. The terms in this section describe what applies once the beta ends. When it does, each author's 14-day free trial begins on that day rather than on their original approval date, and nothing is charged for any period spent in the beta.
Only authors are ever billed by MakaronHub. Readers pay their authors through Patreon and are never charged by us for anything.
- Free trial. Your first 14 days as an author carry no charge at all. The trial starts on the date your author account is approved and applies automatically, regardless of what you earn during it. Because it is measured from your own approval date rather than from a calendar month, every author receives the same 14 days.
- What you pay for. A flat monthly subscription, set by how many paying patrons your connected Patreon campaign has. We take no percentage of your earnings and never bill on your revenue. Patrons on a free tier are excluded from the count.
- Plans. The current bands are published on our pricing page and are the authoritative figures. Below the free threshold you pay nothing at all.
- If a price goes up, you get 30 days' notice by email. We will not increase what an existing band costs without emailing every affected author at least 30 days beforehand, at the address on your account. The new price then applies from your first billing date after that period ends — never to a month you have already paid for. Until it takes effect you can pause or close your account, and nothing further is charged.
- Reductions apply immediately, and adding a larger band is not in itself an increase. If a price falls you get the lower figure at your next billing date with no notice period, because there is nothing to warn you about. Introducing a new, higher band for larger campaigns changes nothing for any author whose own figure stays the same, and for them it is not a price increase for the purposes of the paragraph above. Where a new band does raise what an existing author pays — because it divides a range they are already in, rather than because their campaign grew into it — that is an increase like any other and carries the same 30 days' notice.
- How the count is measured. From the campaign-level tier data Patreon exposes for your campaign — the number of patrons on each of your paid tiers. It is a figure you can verify yourself in your own Patreon dashboard. We do not read, store, or bill on what any individual reader pays.
- Your plan adjusts itself. The band is re-checked each billing cycle against your current count. There is nothing to upgrade or downgrade, and we will not ask you to change plans: if your campaign grows you move up, and if it shrinks you move back down.
- Billing cycle. Your billing cycle is anchored to your own account, not to the calendar, and each month is paid in advance. The day your free trial ends is the day of your first payment, and you are charged on that same date each month thereafter — so an author whose trial ends on 12 March pays on 12 March for 12 March to 11 April, on 12 April for the month after that, and so on. Where a month does not contain that date, the payment falls on its last day and the following month returns to the original date. Payment is attempted immediately against the card you have on file.
- The price is fixed for the month you have paid for. Your band is determined by your paying-patron count on the day you are charged, and does not change during that month. If your campaign grows past a band mid-month, you finish the month at the price you were charged and move up at your next billing date. If it shrinks, your next payment is lower.
- Payment method. No card is required to sign up or to use MakaronHub during your free trial. We ask for one before the trial ends, because that is the date of your first payment. If none is added, publishing and editing pause after two days and the author dashboard locks until one is. Your readers keep full access to everything already published throughout, and you can still archive, delete, and export your own chapters.
- Late or failed payment. If an invoice cannot be collected: days 1–5 are a silent grace period with nothing restricted; from day 6 you cannot publish or edit chapters, though your readers are unaffected; from day 11 the author dashboard and your chapters are locked until the balance is settled. Any lock lifts as soon as payment succeeds.
- Pausing or closing stops future charges. While your account is paused, or after you archive it, no new monthly payment is taken. The month you have already paid for runs to its end; if you resume partway through a later month, billing restarts from that point. An invoice that was already raised and left unpaid is not affected by any of this — see below.
- Corrections are credited against a later invoice, not paid back in cash. Where a charge needs adjusting, the difference comes off your next payment rather than being returned to your card. Because each month is paid in advance, this is also how a mid-month drop in your patron count is handled: nothing is owed back, your next payment is simply lower. Deciding partway through a month that you no longer want the platform, or not publishing during a month you were subscribed for, is not a correction and is not refunded.
- A charge that was wrong through a fault on our side is refunded, not credited. Being charged twice for one month, charged at a band your patron count did not put you in, or charged for a month our own failure stopped you using is not a correction to carry forward — that money goes back to the card that paid it. You do not have to prove the fault to us: tell us what you believe went wrong and we will check the invoice against the patron count recorded for you that day and our own record of what ran, and tell you what we found either way. Nothing in this section affects a refund the law entitles you to.
- Outstanding balances survive account closure. An invoice already raised and not paid remains owed if you archive or delete your account, and is reattached if you register again with the same Patreon account. Closing an account is not a way to shed a fee that has already been charged.
MakaronHub's subscription is separate from, and in addition to, the fees Patreon charges you directly. We do not set or control Patreon's rates.
3. Copyright Takedown Policy
We respect the intellectual property rights of others and expect our users to do the same. MakaronHub hosts and delivers work that authors upload; we do not review it in advance, and we act on the notices described below.
If you believe your copyrighted work has been uploaded to MakaronHub without authorization, send us a takedown notice through the Contact page. Tell us who you are and how to reach you, identify the work and the exact page or chapter you want removed, and state that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized and that what you have told us is accurate. We will remove or disable the material and tell the author who uploaded it, who may send us a counter-notice — if they do, we will pass it to you and may restore the material unless you tell us you are pursuing it further.
Accounts that repeatedly upload work belonging to someone else are suspended and their content removed.
4. Reader Conduct and Anti-Piracy
Certain chapters and materials are provided exclusively to active Patreon supporters. Access to this content is a privilege granted based on your subscription tier to the respective author.
- You may not share your account or provide unauthorized individuals with access to locked chapters.
- You may not copy, paste, distribute, or scrape exclusive chapters to other websites, forums, or platforms.
The license you receive over that content — what it covers, how long it lasts, and the full list of restrictions summarised above — is set out in our Reader License Agreement.
If we determine that a user has shared account access or redistributed member-only chapters, we may permanently ban that account from MakaronHub. Bans under this section are issued by MakaronHub and take effect on MakaronHub only. They do not touch a reader's Patreon membership, which is a matter between that reader and the author.
We use forensic watermarking and our own review to investigate leaks. A ban is a judgement we make, not the automatic output of a tool: where our tooling points at an account, we assess it before acting, and we describe the limits of that tooling honestly in section 11.
A rate-limit page is not a ban. If our hosting provider briefly refuses your connection because too many requests came from your network address at once, its error page may tell you that you have been banned. That is not a ban under this section and not a decision we made: it applies to an address rather than to an account, it clears itself within seconds, and nothing is recorded against you.
Comment moderation by authors. A series author moderates the comment sections under their own work. They can remove a comment there, and they can stop an account posting comments for a set period — in that series, or across their own series — up to a maximum of 30 days. That is the whole of an author's authority over a reader. It never affects what you can read: every chapter you already have access to stays open throughout, and no author can ban you from MakaronHub. Bans remain ours alone, under this section.
Anyone who removes a comment or stops an account commenting — an author or a MakaronHub moderator alike — must give a reason, and that reason is sent to the account it was applied to. Every such action is recorded with the comment it was taken over, and MakaronHub reviews them.
The suggestion board and bug reports. The standards in section 1b apply to what you post on the public suggestion board and in a bug report, exactly as they do to a comment. A suggestion is public where you post it and is also mirrored into the MakaronHub Discord server, so it reaches two audiences rather than one. Posting a suggestion anonymously hides your name and avatar from other readers and from that Discord message; it does not hide them from us — the account that posted it is still recorded, which is what keeps these standards enforceable. A suggestion that breaks them is removed by MakaronHub staff, and anything serious or repeated is dealt with under the suspension power above. Authors have no authority on this board: their moderation reaches only the comment sections under their own work.
Disputed bans and restrictions. A ban we have issued stands unless it is shown to be wrong; a denial on its own will not lift it. If you believe yours was issued in error, contact us with whatever supports that and we will re-examine it — and if our review finds the ban mistaken, including because of a fault in our own systems, we will lift it. Until then it remains fully in effect. The same applies to a commenting restriction, including one an author issued: contact us and we will review it, and we can lift it.
5. User Accounts and Authentication
Who may use MakaronHub. You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account here, which is the minimum Patreon itself requires and the only way in is through Patreon. If the law where you live sets a higher age for agreeing to a service like this one, or requires a parent or guardian's permission below a certain age, that applies to you as well and it is your responsibility to meet it. MakaronHub is not directed at children, and if we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13 we will close it and delete the data held against it. To publish as an author you must additionally be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live, since section 2 commits you to paying for the service.
By logging in via Patreon, you agree to provide accurate information. You are responsible for safeguarding the password you use for Patreon and for any activities or actions under your account. Any attempt to circumvent platform fees, billing cycles, or anti-piracy bans by deleting and recreating your account is strictly prohibited. We securely retain minimal identifying records (such as your Patreon ID) to detect and prevent such abuse.
Connecting a Patreon campaign (For Authors): When an author connects their Patreon campaign to MakaronHub, they authorize us — through Patreon's own consent screen — to read that campaign's membership list. We use this strictly to determine which readers are entitled to which chapters, and to keep that entitlement current as memberships change. Details of exactly what we read, and what we deliberately do not read, are set out in our Privacy Policy.
6. Our Commitments Regarding Member Data (For Authors)
Patreon's Data Processing Agreement with creators — the Creator Privacy Promise — requires an author who shares member data with a third-party service to ensure that service is bound by protections equivalent to that agreement. MakaronHub commits to the following so that authors can rely on it:
- Purpose limitation. We process member data only to deliver the author's own member-only chapters and features — determining who is entitled to what. We do not use it for our own purposes, for advertising, for training machine learning models, or for anything unrelated to running the author's series on MakaronHub.
- Minimization. We request only what entitlement actually requires: a member's status and the tiers they are entitled to. We do not request or store pledge amounts, payment history, or billing details for any reader. The subscription in section 2 is priced on campaign-level tier data — your tiers and how many patrons are on each — so nothing any individual reader pays is ever read or retained.
- No sale or onward sharing. We do not sell member data, and we do not share it with third parties beyond the infrastructure providers listed in our Privacy Policy that are necessary to operate the platform.
- Security. We apply access controls, encrypted transport, and server-side authorization to member data, and we keep it out of anything reachable by a public API key.
- Retention. We do not keep member data longer than needed to provide the service. Concrete retention periods are stated in our Privacy Policy, and account deletion removes the associated records.
- Deletion and access requests. If an author or a reader asks us to delete or produce the data we hold, we will act on it. If an author disconnects their campaign or leaves MakaronHub, the membership records we derived from that campaign stop being refreshed and can be deleted on request.
- Breach notification. If we become aware of unauthorized access to member data, we will notify the affected authors promptly and describe what happened and what we are doing about it.
These commitments are our own and are in addition to any obligations an author has directly to Patreon. Authors remain responsible for their own compliance with Patreon's terms, including confirming that connecting a third-party service is permitted for their campaign.
7. Payment Security & PCI-DSS Compliance
MakaronHub does not store, process, or transmit your credit card information. All payment and billing is handled by Stripe, a certified PCI-DSS Level 1 service provider: your card details go directly to Stripe and never reach our servers, and what we hold is Stripe's own identifier for your billing account and nothing more.
8. Disclaimer of Affiliation & Liability
MakaronHub is a third-party service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Patreon, Inc.
The financial and subscription relationship exists entirely between the Reader and the Author via the Patreon platform. MakaronHub acts solely as a content delivery service and accepts no legal liability or responsibility for subscription cancellations, refunds, chargebacks, or payment disputes between users and authors on Patreon.
9. System Monitoring & Error Tracking
To keep the platform stable and secure we log technical information about requests and errors — which page was requested, whether it succeeded, how long it took, and the details of any fault. This is done by our hosting provider as part of running the site, and it is used for debugging, for spotting outages, and for detecting abuse. Nothing else is done with it.
When something breaks in your browser, that fault is also recorded on MakaronHub itself: the error message, the page it happened on, and the size of your window, your browser and the theme you were using, because a layout fault usually cannot be reproduced without them. These records are grouped by fault rather than by person — we count how many times each distinct problem happened, not who ran into it — and no account, address or browsing history is stored alongside them. They are deleted after 30 days, the period stated in section 6 of the Privacy Policy.
We do not use a separate error-tracking or analytics vendor, and nothing here records your screen, your session, or what you do on a page. The one visitor-counting tool we use sets no cookie and keeps no per-visit record. It is described, along with everything else that touches your data, in section 4 of the Privacy Policy.
10. Service Availability and Changes
MakaronHub is operated by an independent creator, not a large company. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may suspend or discontinue the service, with notice where reasonably possible. If we ever discontinue the platform, we will give authors reasonable notice and a way to export their chapters, since that work belongs to them.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. Scheduled chapters, syncing, notifications, and other automated features depend on third-party services (including Patreon, Stripe, and our hosting providers) that can fail or change independently of us.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Leak tracing is not a guarantee. Our forensic watermarking and Decoder tools are designed to help identify the source of a leak after it happens. They do not prevent copying, and no technical measure can make text impossible to copy. We do not warrant that a leak will be detected, that a leaked copy will be traceable, or that any identification produced by the Decoder is conclusive.
Authors have access to these tools for their own series. Any step you then take outside MakaronHub on the strength of them — most commonly removing a patron from your own Patreon campaign — is your decision and your responsibility, and we are not party to it. Inside MakaronHub an author's authority runs to their own comment sections and no further, as section 4 sets out; banning an account from the platform is a separate thing that only we can do.
We also do not warrant that chapters, lore, maps, or other content will never be lost or corrupted. Authors are responsible for keeping their own copies of their work.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MakaronHub will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including lost profits, lost revenue, lost patrons, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the service, even if we were advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total cumulative liability for any and all claims relating to the service will not exceed the greater of (a) the total subscription fees you actually paid to MakaronHub in the twelve months before the claim arose, or (b) fifty United States dollars ($50).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability or exclusions of implied warranties. Where those laws apply to you, the limitations in these Terms apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing here is intended to exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MakaronHub and its operator from any third-party claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your use of the service, the content you upload, or your violation of any law or third-party right. This is most relevant to authors: you are responsible for holding the rights to what you publish here, including translation and distribution rights.
14. Resolving Disputes
MakaronHub is operated by an independent creator rather than a company, and these Terms do not name a specific governing law or an exclusive court for disputes.
If you have a problem with the service, please contact us through the Contact page first. We will try to resolve it directly, which is faster than any formal route for everyone involved.
Nothing in these Terms limits the rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your own country. Those rights generally apply regardless of what a service's terms say, and we are not attempting to sign them away.
15. General Terms
- Severability. If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest of the Terms will remain in full effect.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce a right or provision, that is not a waiver of it.
- Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Reader License Agreement, are the whole agreement between you and MakaronHub regarding the service. The Reader License Agreement forms part of these Terms; where it and these Terms differ on the same point, these Terms govern.
- No partnership. Nothing in these Terms creates a partnership, joint venture, or employment relationship between you and MakaronHub. Authors are independent creators, not our employees or agents.
- Assignment. We may transfer these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of the platform. Your rights under these Terms carry over to any successor.
16. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. We will try to provide notice prior to any new terms taking effect, but your continued use of the site implies acceptance of any changes.
